The detainees, many of whom are accused of plotting terrorist acts, could be moved to the USA, Obama officials say.
The Obama administration is considering closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center, its inmates many whom are Islamic terrorist could be sent to prisons in the US.
“This demonstrates that if the political will exists, we could finally close Guantanamo without imperilling our national security,” said Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, the Senate Intelligence Committee chairwoman who released the recommendations.
There are six Defence Department prisons and 98 Justice Department prisons that could take the terrorist.
But it does say that existing facilities will need to be modified and current inmates may need to be relocated to make room for the Islamic terrorists.
Barack Obama ordered the closing of the Guantanamo detention center when he took office in 2009, but that was blocked by a Republican-led bill that cut off funding to move the detainees to the US.
The politicians cited security concerns, saying the presence of the Islamic terrorists in the USA would encourage terror attacks in the states or cities where they were being held.
Senator Feinstein commissioned a study in 2008 to find out where the detainees could be held, if Obama was able to move ahead with Guantanamo’s closure and relocate its terrorist to the United States.
Obama also supported the regime change in both Libya and Egypt leading to radical fundamentalist Muslims gaining political control of those countries he traveled to Egypt where he told the Muslim world that the United States no longer considers itself a Christian nation. Obama also ordered NASA administrator Charles Bolden to pursue new objectives: to have NASA reach out to the Muslim world.
Obama also oddly called the Fort Hood Terrorism attack ‘Workplace Violence’, in May 2009 May, Obama refused to invite Christian and Jewish leaders to the White House to participate in the National Day of Prayer (as former presidents have done), but later in September 2009, he invited Muslim leaders to the White House for a special Muslim Ramadan celebration to commemorate Allah delivering the Koran to his prophet Mohammad.
