Hamas Tunnels ‘Change the Balance of Power’

Abu Ubaidah, a spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas’s military wing) expressed satisfaction with the terror organization’s readiness to engage in another military confrontation with Israel.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Ubaidah claimed that Hamas continues to dig terror tunnels from Gaza to Israel, and that the weapon would be a “strategic” move which could possibly “change the balance of power” in the event of another war.

According to Ubaidah, Palestinian Arabs under Hamas’s tutelage are working 24/7 to extend the tunnels in advance of the next Hamas-Israel clash, and that they would present a formidable tactical advantage. He also warned Israel not to “do anything stupid” against the Palestinian Arabs.

Raed Sa’ad, a senior member of the brigades, has called on Fatah’s military wing in Arab regions of Judea and Samaria to prepare carefully for another upcoming military conflict. He also threatened to declare war if Israel allowed Jews the equal right for Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount – Judaism’s holiest site.

The Hamas statements follow reports by IDF Colonel Amos Hacohen, head of the IDF’s Southern Gaza Brigade, that the number of tunnels built by Gaza-based terrorists has increased considerably.

Just last month, the IDF destroyed several tunnels which were found to be smuggling arms from Hamas into Israel. The tunnels were also slated to be used for more kidnappings of IDF soldiers.
