Malaysian jetliner Shot Down in Ukraine near Russian border in No flight Zone

A Malaysian passenger airliner flight 17 with 295 people on board crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border, Interfax cited an aviation industry source as saying on Thursday. This was considered a no fly zone, why the plane was int he area is unknown.

It said the Boeing-777   plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and is said to have crashed near Donetsk, Ukraine an area that is in a civil war with the new government placed in Kiev.

This bring up the question if the jetliner was shot down, or the fact that it is from Malaysia like the previous air crash, if there was another jihadist pilot taking Malaysian planes down?

The Associated Press is saying the plane was shot down over Ukraine. The Boeing jet was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

All 285 passengers and 15 crewmembers have died in the crash, an adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Geraschenko said.

The passenger plane was expected to enter Russian airspace at 5:20pm local time, but never did, a Russian aviation industry source was cited by Reuters. The jetliner was flying at an altitude 33,000 feet when it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.

“The plane crashed 60km away from the border, the plane had an emergency beacon,” ITAR-TASS cited its source.

Ukraine government claims that a Buk missile that downed jetliner was fired by pro-Russian separatists.  The Buk missile system is a family of self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the former Soviet Union and Russian Federation and designed to engage cruise missiles, smart bombs, fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
