Obama: No Politics in Clinton FBI Investigation

U.S. President Barack Obama defended former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton during an interview on Fox News Sunday.

While Clinton is set to be interviewed “within weeks” as part of an FBI investigation into whether national security was compromised by her use of a privately owned email server, Obama said that in his opinion, Clinton did not “intentionally” put the country’s security in jeopardy through her handling of emails as secretary of state.

“I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security. Now what I’ve also said is that, and she’s acknowledged, that there’s a carelessness in terms of managing emails that she has owned. And she recognizes. But I also think it is important to keep this in perspective,” said Obama.

The president insisted that it is important for people to assess the issue from the broader perspective that she performed an outstanding job as a secretary of state.

President Obama also said that his administration would not interfere with the investigation into Clinton’s email server, which is expected to conclude by next month.

“I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department, or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case. Guaranteed. Full stop. Nobody gets treated differently when it comes to the Justice Department. Because nobody is above the law,” said Obama.

Clinton has maintained her innocence throughout the investigation, and has said there is no chance of her being indicted for the use of a private server.
