(CNSNews.com) – Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, says Republicans will clobber Democrats with the Affordable Care Act — and President Obama’s false promises about it — in next year’s mid-term elections.
“And this issue is going to be toxic for the Democrats,” Priebus told CNN’s “State of the Union With Candy Crowley.”
“And believe me, we will tattoo it to their foreheads in 2014. We will run on it. And they will lose because of it.”
Priebus also told Crowley that Chris Christie isn’t the only star in the Republican Party:
“Chris Christie is a conservative. I think he’s going to do very well in all of his endeavors. But the fact is we’ve got stars all over our party, Candy,” Priebus said.
“I mean, we’re going to be the party that is fresh and new in 2016. It’s the Democrats that are going to be rolling out the same old names that you would expect them to roll out. So I love our chances. I love our bench. And we’re going to have a great primary season come a few years from now.”
Asked about perceptions that the Republican National Committee is “not friendly to tea party types” such as Ken Cuccinelli, who lost the Virginia governor’s election, Priebus called it “totally ridiculous.”
He said the Republican Governors Association and the Republican National Committee — together — spent $11 million on the recent gubernatorial race in Virginia. But the $3 million contributed by the RNC was far less than it spent four years ago.
Priebus said that’s because the party’s coffers were boosted in 2009 by a transfer of $23 million from the McCain-Palin ticket.
“The RNC, outside of a presidential election, is never in the business of buying millions and millions of dollars of ads. So what we decided early on is that we would put together the best-possible ground game, about $3 million worth, into Virginia to help Ken out. And obviously, the ground game, Obamacare, Ken’s campaign came together, closed the gap.
“I’m really proud of the ground game that we put together in Virginia. I know Ken is, and I know their campaign manager is as well. So you know, the day that the so-called, you know, Republican establishment puts $11 million into a single governor’s race is not enough, I think we’re living in crazy world.”
“So look, we have a lot to pay for on the ground across the country coming into 2014. Do I wish the outcome was different? Of course!”
