(CNSNews.com) – President Obama, came out in support of Senate Democrats using the “nuclear option” Thursday to push through the president’s judicial nominees over Republican filibusters.
However, in 2005, then Sen. Obama took to the Senate floor to oppose GOP use of the “nuclear option” in order to push through President Bush’s nominees when Senate Democrats were blocking his selections to the federal courts.
In his floor speech Obama said “….everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness, and the gridlock will only get worse.”
