With all the time that the Saudis have been trying to take us over, you might have thought that they would be a little more familiar with liberals.
“We are glad the Americans are here,” said Ahmed al-Ibrahim, an adviser to some of Saudi Arabia’s royals and officials, when I met with him recently, “but we fear that the president has lost credibility after Syria.”
“The bond of trust between America and Saudi Arabia has been broken in the Obama years,” al-Ibrahim said. “We feel we have been stabbed in the back by Obama.”
“Every time that Obama had to choose between his enemies and his friends, he always chose his enemies,” he said. “We don’t know what he’s putting in his tea.”
Chamomile, wildflowers and uncut progressivism. Did the Saudis really think that Obama was bowing exclusively to them? The left respects only one thing; unmitigated hostility. The more you hate their country, the more they assume that they wronged you and they have to make it right.
But it’s nice to see how well that soft power is coming along. It’s coming along so well that top Saudi advisors are openly showing their contempt by making drug jokes about their ally in the White House.
If this is what they’re willing to go on record as saying, you can imagine what they’re saying in private.
The Saudis used to be discreet. They hated you and wanted to kill you, but they wouldn’t say it to your face. At this rate, Riyadh is going to openly teach hijackers how to get through American airports just to see if Obama says anything.
