REPORT: New Massive Wave of Illegal Immigration Coming

A new report suggests that there is a massive wave of illegal immigration coming to American soon.

For USA Today, Alan Gomez wrote this week that “there is growing consensus that changes in the economies of Latin America and the U.S. are creating the perfect climate for another wave of undocumented immigrants racing north.”

Gomez cites a recent report from the Inter-American Development Bank that concludes Latin American nations would suffer dramatically due to a slowdown in China’s economy, raising commodities prices worldwide.

“The slow-but-steady economic recovery in the USA could also hurt Latin American economies because of rising interest rates and the U.S. Federal Reserve slowing its bond purchases in the region,” Gomez wrote. “Add an improved outlook in U.S. sectors that tend to lure low-skilled immigrants, like construction and retail, and the conditions are ideal for unemployed Latin Americans trying to find work in America.”

He quotes Migration Policy Institute president Demetrios Papademetriou to back up his theory. “There will be more pressure for immigrants – both legal and illegal – to come to the United States,” Papademetriou said.

Gomez argues that passing the Senate Gang of Eight bill or a package of House bills like it, however, could stop the coming expected wave of illegal immigration. “House Republican leaders like Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, keep saying that immigration changes are a priority that must get done this year,” Gomez wrote. “But as the midterm elections approach, time is running out. If Congress fails, the only certainty remaining will be that we’re on the verge of another wave of illegal immigration.”

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the Gang of Eight bill would cut illegal immigration by only 50 percent.
