(CNSNews.com) – At a press conference on Thursday on Capitol Hill in support of President Barack Obama’s executive order to provide protection from deportation for millions of illegal aliens, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the Republicans have failed to act and Obama’s action will help “law-abiding families” enjoy the holiday season.
“In the face of the failure of Republican leadership in the House to follow the lead of the Republicans in the Senate to work in a bipartisan way – in a strong bipartisan way — the president of the United States has appropriately announced action – executive action – to help,” Pelosi said.
“Thanks to the president’s immigration accountability executive actions, millions of hard-working, law abiding families will be able to celebrate the holidays with renewed hope – hope in the future free from the fear of separation and deportation,” Pelosi said.
In announcing the order on Nov. 20, however, Obama noted that some members of those “law-abiding families” have broken U.S. laws.
“We’ll take steps to deal responsibly with the millions of undocumented immigrants who already live in our country,” Obama said. “I want to say more about this third issue, because it generates the most passion and controversy.
“Even as we are a nation of immigrants, we’re also a nation of laws,” Obama said. “Undocumented workers broke our immigration laws, and I believe that they must be held accountable -– especially those who may be dangerous.”
