Watch: First Known Terrifying Video Footage of Everest Avalanche

As a massive avalanche of snow, ice, and rocks came barreling into Mount Everest base camp on Saturday, German climber Jost Kobusch was there to record the horrifying destruction. “The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives,” he wrote on YouTube.

Kobusch’s YouTube video is the first known footage of the incident, which killed and injured climbers and Sherpa guides and left hikers stranded on the mountain. The magnitude-7.8 quake struck Nepal on Saturday, a little more than a year after another avalanche hit Everest, killing 16.

The video is not for the faint-hearted; the commentary is laced with profanities.
