An estimated 100,000 Christians are killed each year around the world solely because of their faith, one bishop found.
Bishop John McAreavey, who’s also the chairman of the Council for Justice & Peace of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, said the attacks are underreported but have hit unprecedented levels, Breitbart said.
Daily, 273 die for their Christian faith, which translates into 11 each hour, he said. And those numbers don’t even include those who are “tortured, imprisoned, exiled, threatened, excluded, attacked and discriminated against on a widespread scale,” McAreavey said.
He presented his findings before the Joint Committee of Foreign Affairs and Trade, during which he also referred to Christianity as the most oppressed religion in the world.
He also noted International Society for Human Rights findings that said “80 percent of all acts of religious discrimination in the world today are directed against Christians,” Breitbart reported.
McAreavey said much of the persecution against Christianity takes place in the Middle East and that the international community should stand up and get involved.
