Taxpayer Funded LA Cougar Bridge
California’s highway system is crumbling with a backlog of more than $59 billion in maintenance costs. To fund this, Governor Brown has proposed a 12-cent increase in the state’s gas tax and a $65 annual highway user fee. There’s no question the state needs to budget more money to maintain its road system. Unfortunately, unnecessary pet projects are getting the attention and tax dollars– which should be dedicated to the disintegrating road system. The most recent unnecessary state project is a $40 million cougar overpass introduced by Caltrans.
