Orange County Sheriff’s bomb squad officials detonated an explosive device that was left in a Lowe’s Home Improvement store parking lot in Anaheim on Friday night, authorities said.
Anaheim police officers were called around 5:15 p.m. about a possible pipe bomb in the 1500 block of North Lemon Street, said Anaheim police Detective Laura Lomeli.
Customers inside the store were first told to stay inside, but were later evacuated through a side exit.
Sheriff’s bomb squad officials looked at the device through a robotic camera and detonated it in the parking lot, said Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department.
Pieces of the bomb were collected for an investigation, which will be conducted by Anaheim police detectives. The type of device was not clear, Lomeli said.
No one was injured and Lowe’s reopened at 7:15 p.m. There are no suspects, Lomeli said, and Anaheim police is investigating locations of two mosques known as Little Arabia: Masjid Al-Ansar and West Coast Islamic Society, and The Islamic Center of Anaheim.
